It’s cold and dreary outside right now in the PNW. We all want to get away to somewhere tropical and sunny, go to some beach where we can sit out on the sand holding a fun fruity drink in hand.

But vacations are expensive!!!

With that in mind instead we decided to treat ourselves to a little slice of Hawaiian paradise by checking out Da’Hui Bar and Grill, found in Southeast Portland off of Foster road.

To start with they have a beautifully made outdoor dining patio set up. With natural wood, warm colors and tropical vibes, ready for eating out on a wonderful sunny day!

But since it’s colder than hell outside right now we decided to jump inside for our Hawaiian adventure.

Inside you definitely get a fun Tiki Bar vibe to this space, with bright lights floating among hanging fish and wood carved statues and paintings of tropical native women (with our without suitably covered swim ware…) you really get the island vibe.

So in respect of that vibe we needed some tropical drinks!! Starting with The Purple Tickler ($11) this lovely 22oz slushy drink is made with Gin blended with Strawberry and Citrus, then topped with a Champagne float for little bit of extra class to this fishbowl sized cocktail! Crazy delicious especially for the fairly low price you pay.

Now if a slushy drink seems a bit chilly for the winter. Don’t worry, they have at least four different hot cocktails to warm you up. Including the Hoppin Hot Scotch! ($9) this Hot cocoa based drink is made with Johnny Walker Red, mixed with Amaretto and Butterscotch Schnapps. Not forgetting a whipped cream topping to really warm you up and fill you with the Winter Spirit. Sweet but not overly so, not to mention Strong! They definitely give generous pours when making these drinks!

Now with drinks this strong we definitely needed some eats. So first up, a simple comfort food with a twist. The Da’Hui Grilled Cheese ($14) now here you start out with a fairly basic grilled cheese. Provolone and Cheddar Grilled on Sourdough Bread to a buttery perfection. The twist comes from Hawaiian Ham and Pineapple with a Teriyaki Sauce giving this sandwich that added bite to it.

Then finished with a light Strawberry Guava Jam that really brings the whole thing together flavor wise. Really this is a must for anyone bored with their basic sandwiches and looking for something more.

Now for those who want something a bit more traditionally Hawaiian we highly recommend the Hawaiian Garlic Chicken ($16) a local island favorite. This Mammoth Pile of Crunchy Juicy Chicken is then tossed in an Asian inspired Garlic Sauce. Served with two Massive Scoops of Rice and a Healthy serving of Mac Salad. It is a simple straight forward dish but for all of that beautifully executed, with flavors that are so addictive you won’t be able to stop eating but portions large enough there is no way to finish this in one sitting.

This is the best kind of comfort food to make you happy or if you were too happy the day before, cure any hangover.

Wow was everything here beyond delicious! The kind of meal where you can’t stop eating even after you are completely full. We cannot stress enough how satisfied we were with our meal. It was excellent in taste, portion size and price. This easily hits our list of new favorite spots to hit up and we will be coming back to Da’Hui again and again!
