Portland Wing Week 2021!!!

We have faced many Portland Weeks in the past! We have faced down the Portland Burger week with strong wills and stronger appetites. We faced down Portland Pizza week with extra Parmesan on deck. Portland Dumpling week almost beat us but we managed to eat with extra dipping sauce!

Now comes what may be our greatest Challenge….. Portland Wing Week!!!!!

Of course that means that between October 4th through to the 10th dozens of Portland bars and restaurants will be offering plates of saucy wings for $6 a plate! Sponsored by Jim Beam so you know there will be plenty to drink with this spicy selection. So that being said we read through the list hoping to hit up our top 4 wing choices! Here we go!

Wings Stop #1 – Nick’s Famous Coney Island

Nick’s is a well known spot in Portland famous for its sale of Ciney island inspired treats. From Chili Dogs to Coney Island fries it is all the joy of boardwalk fare but with drinks on tap!

Their wing option for this week was The Georgia Heat! Smoked chicken wings done in a Peach and Habanero sauce cooked with Jim Beam Peach. These wings started us out a bit spicy, right on that edge before overpowering and tempered nicely with the fruity peach. A classic flavor profile and a nice way to begin our week. Only downside is that the wings were not separated into flats and drums so be sure to ask for extra napkins because separating them will be messy.

Wing Stop #2 – Lauerlwood Public House and Brewery

Next stop was Lauerlwood Pub. This well known brewery best known for their fresh beer and their lack of fear when it come to letting people throw axes πŸͺ“ πŸͺ“ πŸͺ“ in their private axe hall.

Now they are also known for delicious wings! Sauced with a reduction of their house brewed Tree Hugger Porter and Honey glaze. Then with just a sprinkle of chili flakes for flavor without a too much burn. This is a really fun flavor, you really get the tasting notes of the beer with every bite but finishing with a sweet and spicy note in a very balanced wing. But note this glaze is very messy so ask for extra wet wipes!

Wing # 3 Rollin Fresh

For our third stop we decided to try somewhere a little different. Instead of bar wings we thought we would try a bit of Asian fusion from Rollin Fresh. This market shop is known for its colorful bright settings, beautiful outdoor patios, sushi burritos and now. Wings!

Here we have The Bomb Wings! Served in a perfectly crispy light batter, these wings are tossed in a Garlic Fish Sauce blended with Chili and perfectly seasoned. Be warned that when these hit the table the garlic aroma can be overpowering, but surprisingly the wings themselves are not over seasoned. Light and tasty, the perfect wings for those wanting balance of sweetness and umami.

Wing #4 – Danwei Canting

Danwei Canting has become one of favorite Eastside Portland lunch spots. With their menu of more traditional Asian inspired dishes from fresh steamed dumplings, to scallion pancakes blended with some western concept. It is a colorful space with a natural wet industrial vibe.

And they have brought us The Sesame Wings! Done in a Tempura batter these wings are perfectly crunchy without missing a beat, and then tossed in a Signature Slightly Sweet Sesame Sauce. Now we know this seems like a simple flavor profile here but honestly that is what we like about it. It is straightforward and purely delicious. Just what you want from wings sometimes.
